What is MATCH?

MATCH is a teacher-developed interdisciplinary approach to Student Wellness combining physical activity, nutrition, and technology education.

A “body systems” approach is used as a framework for the curriculum. MATCH lessons are delivered over a 16-week period and are designed to parallel the 7th Grade North Carolina Standard Course of Study.

Lessons are designed to improve performance on End of Grade Reading, Math, Writing, and Computer Skills Tests.

Rewards Day 2007 - Fitness, Essay and Poster Champions!

Research-based components include fitness testing, behavioral assessment and calculations of Body Mass Index (BMI). Students are involved in activities and lessons across the curriculum to reinforce key concepts and develop a “knowledge base” resulting in behavior modification for successful management of weight control, disease prevention, and optimal health.

Students take personal responsibility through goal-setting, self-monitoring, and learn decision-making skills for “healthy choices”. Incentive-based rewards are earned for meeting personal goals. Database and spreadsheet skills are taught and continually reinforced as students use “their data” from a variety of activities that provide motivation and make “Wellness Fun”.
